What are consonant blends? Consonant blends (also called consonant clusters) are a collection of two or three different consonant sounds that are each heard when the word is pronounced. Examples of these are fr (frog), cl (clown), dr (drink), and pl (plate).

This game is a great way for your child to identify consonant blends using words they commonly use in the classroom. It will show your child an image and ask them to pick the train car with the matching consonant blend.

They can play in three modes:

Practice Mode - This mode is great for a child just beginning to learn consonant blends. They can select either consonant blends or the images that begin with consonant blends and which level they would like to practice. If they pick the wrong answer it will help them learn the correct one.

Blends - This mode challenges your child by earning points for each correct answer. They will be given 4 consonant blends and asked to pick the correct one by its sound.

Images - This mode works the same as Blends, except now your child is given 4 images that begin with consonant blends and asked to pick the correct one by its sound. If they make 3 mistakes they have to start the level over. Complete all 5 levels to win.
