Born in Switzerland of Croatian parents and having spent his youth, he has dual nationality. After playing in Swiss national selections, he finally opted for Croatian selection. In club, he began his career at FC Basel before leaving early Schalke 04 where he will do his scales. In 2011, he joined Spain and Sevilla FC with whom he won the Europa League in 2014. The same year, Rakitic made a commitment to FC Barcelona.
