******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************
Romantic music is a term that denotes a period of Western classical music that began in the latter part of the 18th century or early part of the 19th century. Romantic music has been associated with Romanticism, a European literary and artistic movement that emerged in the second half of the 18th century. Romantic music notably dominated the Romantic movement in Germany.
The Romantic movement was a literary, intellectual, and artistic movement that developed in Europe in the second half of the 18th century, and which became fortified as a result of the Industrial Revolution. It was partly a revolution against political and social norms of the Age of Enlightenment. During the Romantic period, music has often been used to display nationalism. For instance, Jean Sibelius' Finlandia has been portrayed to symbolize the rising nation of Finland at a time they were under Russian control. Frédéric Chopin was one of the trailblazing composers who incorporated nationalistic details into his compositions. Joseph Machlis stated, "Poland's struggle for freedom from tsarist rule aroused the national poet in Poland. … Examples of musical nationalism abound in the output of the romantic era. The folk idiom is prominent in the Mazurkas of Chopin". Chopin’s polonaises and mazurkas are highly notable for their utilization of nationalistic rhythms.
